This "Triceps Press" works the muscles at the rear of the upperarms. There are two of these machines which look somewhat similar. No, it wasn't used by "Superman" - the 'Bent' handlebar is deliberate as having it 'bent' like that works the muscles slightly differently.
As well as being used for 'Warming Up' and 'Warming Down', Cycling is a good exercise for working the Heart and Lungs, for general fitness and for mobilising the lower joints. It may be a 'Ride to Nowhere' but at least it's indoors and you can control how many 'hills' you climb and, once you've got there, you don't have to cycle all the way back !
John is in the forground on one of the bank of Rowing Machines - For practice to get in the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race !
Actually, this is an unusual picture of a 'General Session' - Usually these machines are all in use and Trainees have to 'wait their turn.'
You are never too old to twist the night away !
And so, when all the exercising is done, a check-up on the 'heart-rate machine' ... we don't want anyone walking out of the building and keeling over - Much better to 'Warm Down' with some gentle exercise and monitor how the old 'Ticker' is doing until it's at a normal, steady rate.
There's a chart which tells you what sort of heart-rate you should be looking for for different ages and, at the other end of the scale, a section that tells you how effective your exercising has been.
