The Instructors maintain a constant watch on what is happening in the Fitness Centre. There involvement is sometimes discrete and from a distance - at other times they will intervene to correct or modify the way a Trainee is doing an exercise.
Sometimes a Trainee will need to have a piece of equipment adjusted and will find it hard to make the changes themself. An Instructor is always on hand and will ensure, in this situation, that the equipment is safe before the Trainee continues.
Sometimes a Trainee will need to have his 'Work Programme' modified as he or she has improved or progressed forward. Often a small discussion will 'fix' the changes in the mind of the Trainee.
Part of the enabling or "I can do that" process is activated by an Instructor being 'within reach' if the Trainee is trying something new or at the edge of the Trainee's ability.
Of course, if there is a "Special Need" - for example if the Trainees are Visually Impaired or Very Hard of Hearing then an Instructor will often be assisted by a 'Sighted Guide' or someone with an insight into the particular problem that the Trainee has.
